D8 Member of the Month June 2025

By Sunday, June 1, 2025
Main article image for story titled 'D8 Member of the Month June 2025'

The Sports Energy Monthly paper publishes our OSGA District 8 Member of the Month article:

our Member of the Month for June Rose-Marie Bekkers

Rose-Marie lives in Metcalfe and has been an Ontario Senior Games Association (OSGA) District 8 member for over two decades.  She continues to participate in numerous events:  Bid Euchre, Cribbage, Euchre, Prediction Walk and Bridge.  This athlete has competed in District, Regional and Provincial levels and has won numerous medals in the Prediction Walk.

The Prediction Walk is an interesting event in the OSGA.  Very similar to running, walking is different in that one foot must be in contact with the ground at all times. The Prediction Walk makes the participant ‘predict’ the time it will take them to complete the course and then comparing their actual time.  The Prediction Walk course is a distance of either 3km for participants under the age of 75 or 1.6 km for participants over the age of 75.  Winners are determined by a differential of who is closest to their predictive time (under or over).

Rose-Marie mentioned that “We enjoy all the activities and the many friends we’ve met over the years”.  She plans to continue to partake in all of her favourite events in the future.  She encourages new OSGA members to just “enjoy the game”.  There is no stress or nervousness strategies required as her fellow OSGA participants are welcoming, friendly and encouraging.
